What Is an Otoplasty

Table of Contents

An otoplasty is a type of cosmetic surgery that reshapes the ears. Many people are born with ears that protrude away from the head to a degree that is considered abnormal. As the individual grows, other people start to take notice. This can lead to severe teasing and bullying throughout a person’s childhood. Quite often, an otoplasty is performed when the child is about five or six years of age. However, an increasing number of adults are now having this cosmetic surgery to boost their self-confidence and self-image.

Watch this video to hear an interview with a cosmetic surgeon. He explains the otoplasty procedure and discusses the brief recovery period. You’ll also see some remarkable “before” and “after” pictures of individuals who have had this procedure. Before deciding on ear reshaping surgery, it is also important to understand the potential risks and complications of otoplasty, including possible pain, scarring, and recovery-related concerns.
